statement read to the media after the Inquest into 10 deaths in April 2009

This is has been a 10-year emotional journey for the families. Not just those families directly involved in the inquest but also the relatives of the 92 victims investigated by the police, who are also waiting for answers. We did not expect this inquest to be transparent, honest or fair, and our expectations have been met in full. We have heard witnesses lie on oath without any acknowledgement that what they have said goes against their police statements made in 2005. We have had to endure jokes about Morphine and syringe drivers, even after the overdoses to our loved ones were established.

Extreme drug overdoses, given without justification or logic that rendered our families comatose in a matter of hours, and dead soon after; giving relatives no warning or opportunity to speak with them. To behave in this way should have consequences, but it seems that if you’re on the NHS payroll you receive protection not prosecution. The families journey’s are not over, once we have ALL the evidence as denied by this coroner we will reflect on these last few weeks and decide our next steps.

Tony Blair said in the House of Commons that there would never be another Shipman even though; at that time he was well aware of the ‘situation’ at Gosport.  He and his government have done their very best to cover this up.  He also said he would take a robust approach to complaints against the health service, using the Government’s publicity machine to help hospitals rebute allegations. - we have fought this machine for 10 years.  Without our complaints the Commission for Health Improvement would never have investigated the hospital and its practices and the over prescribing of opiates and overdosing of patients leading to death would have continued.

It is probably one of the most extensive conspiracies involving the health service that has been buried since 1991.   Some of these Medical Experts have put their careers on the line to protect ill-practicing Doctors like Dr Jane Barton, however they cannot deny her unnecessary over prescribing of opiates that put patients lives at risk, and caused death. We live in this Mother state, which sits back and allows our elderly relatives to be pushed to the end, because they are putting too much pressure on the Health Service, the very service that they built.

They use callous Doctors like Jane Barton to relieve their bed-blocking issues and when families question mass overdoses and sudden deaths we hear nothing but lies from the professional bodies that are supposedly here to protect us.

Lets see what the GMC will do now, after 10 long years of avoiding their responsibilities and allowing this Doctor to continue her practices. A body to protect patients?

The elderly and the public deserve better.  If somebody is going to die it is not up to the Doctor to decide when that will be. It is their basic right to have their families around them in the last few days. A right, which Jane Barton took at will. We think she is fiercely inhuman, a Monster.

Lastly, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Blake Lapthorn for their support and our Barrister’s Mr Tom Leeper and Mr Patrick Sadd who did an exceptional job in light of the evidence which was forbidden in this inquest.
